The NSW Police Basketball Club was formed some 33 years ago. We currently have about 40 members.

In 1978 a group of NSW Police invited a team of Victorian Police to challenge them in a basketball game at the Alexandria Basketball Stadium in Sydney. The Victorians arrived at Central by train where they were met by the New South Welshmen. Accommodation had been organised for the Victorians at the Rex Hotel in Kings Cross. The game was hotly contested with NSW coming out winners by 3 points. Because of the success of the first game, the Australasian Police Basketball Championships were born the next year with the South Australian Police and Australian Federal Police also attending. The NSW Police Basketball Club has attended the said championships every year since. We have won 9 men’s championships and 6 women’s. These championships have a tough competition combined with a strong social side. We accommodate all levels of skill, from ex-NBL players to those who only pick up a basketball once a year to attend our championships. Everyone is welcome. We often say, “We only have to get you away once” because after experiencing our week away for the first time, you’ll be back.

This year, the club will travel to Darwin for the Australasian Police Basketball Championships, which will be contested from 4th – 10th October. Interested contact Rob Beven above.
