Do you enjoy the outdoors? Boating? Fishing? Camping? Would you like to participate in a challenge where you can ‘take a bite of more than you can chew’. If you do, this club is for you. The NSW Police Fishing Club has it all in one. Join a team of like minded people. A club, which benefits you, your children and family. Enjoy the camaraderie, fun and personal satisfaction with others. Receive advice and practical guidance in fishing and boating in all environments. There is nothing stronger than the saying on all levels, ‘a family that Fishes together, stays together’.

Our history is etched in this ancient sport of addiction. The idea of forming a club for the benefit of anglers working within the NSW Police Department was first raised back in 1973 at the old Police Club in Sussex St.  Unfortunately, the Police Club folded, but plans for a Fishing Club remained strong between some dedicated fishermen. In 1976, these men, Col Wheatley, Nev Sternbeck, Bill Ralph and Bob Crocker, with advice from Sgt’s Keith Burwood and Ian Toll, commenced the process and a Constitution was drawn. This, along with a letter, was sent to the Commissioner of Police, Mervyn T Wood, requesting permission to form a club for anglers working within the department. Permission was granted and on the 27th July 1977, the first inaugural meeting was held. The first bearers of the club were elected to office, armed with nothing more than rods, reels, smelly bait and a passion to fish and involve others in their sport.

Today, the NSW Police Fishing Club Inc. continues. New members with the same passions have seen the Club grow to accommodate members from other emergency service groups, law enforcement agencies and their families. One of the original members and founder, Nev Sternbeck remains with the club. He continues his involvement as a keen member and fisher. The Club receives the support of the NSW Police Council of Sport and number of prominent marine businesses and companies who assist in making events a worthy experience to those attending. The NSW Police Fishing Club Inc. currently has four major events of the year and runs a number of social events on announcement.

  • The annual members Catch and Record
  • Police Games Angling event
  • Australian Police Fishing Tournament, Coffs Harbour
  • Glenbawn Dam Scone Fresh Water Camp and Fish Classic.

The NSW Police Fishing Club is open to all serving and retired members of the NSW Police and their families. Membership is also encouraged between other NSW Emergency Services Departments and law Enforcement agencies on application.
